April's here! With thanks to Tom Lehrer
Spring is here! Ah spr-r-r-r-ring is here!
Life is Zooness and life is beer!
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring,
I do! Don't you? Course you do!
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me
And makes April the first a treat for me . . .
All of us in the Zoo
Can be lunatics too
As we post our hoaxes in the blog
And the newspapers print
And our sides need a splint
As the galaxies turn to a frog
When galactic letters came, my cats didn't need to hide
And Bill went to Apache, to photograph ET's side
The stars all shine bright, everything seems all right
When a tartan sheep makes the news,
la la,
La la la la la la deedidooo, doo doo doo doo doo . . .
We've gained notoriety
And caused much anxiety
In the Serious Society
With our fun
But APOD has like piety
And with this propriety
There's quite a variety
Of brain-raising fun!
But it isn't a law in astronomy
To preserve all po-faced-ness autonomy . . .
So if you like to tweet
And the Grauniad's sweet
And we'll classify cats and clouds too
And maybe we'll mew
At a kitten or two
While we click for spaceships on the zoo
We'll April Fool all, amid laughter and merriment
And next year, and next, in our Zooey experiment -
My grin will be widening
With all my ribs tightening
As we fool all people
- in a cellar or steeple! -
With April Fool's Day at the Zoo! Da-dum!
These lyrics were inspired by the immortal Tom Lehrer; the original song is called "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park".

(When everybody was gloomy because Voldemort had come to power, did you notice how Fred and George's joke shop did a roaring trade? Did the recession prompt a lot of jokes or did I miss them all every year until now?)
Update, 21st April ish: Hahahahaha our sense of humour gets everywhere. Apparently Kevin swears he "was barely involved"!

Grrrrr! The BBC have taken down their kitten talent show page, and Metro the "farmer breeds unique tartan sheep" article. Oh well, now at least you know what the April Fools were . . .
